“Author Shir Guez’s educational preparation focused on a double major in Economics and Accounting, but it is obvious form her current output that she has become passionate about healthy living: she not only is an author of repute but also serves as editor in chief of a health website.

Using her own very fine illustrations, Shir relates the story of a young girl Emma who is fascinated with the topic of sprouting. She inquiries about sprouting from her Mom who explains the process to her – `Sprouting is taking seeds of foods we love to eat and growing them until they become long, big and beautiful.’ More questions, and Emma wants to know if once sprouted the spouts can be planted in the garden, to which her Mom answers that one seeds are sprouted they are for eating (more proteins, iron and vitamins!). Emma wants to make sprouts so she and her Mom elect to sprout lentils. The mother/daughter team successfully sprouts the lentils (instructions here are excellent) and when Emma finds the sprouts so tasty, she is eager to sprout other seeds as well!Shir Guez has a relaxed, calming writing style that makes learning concepts and processes fun to read and to perform. This is a very fine children’s book that teaches the fun of culturing sprouts and with it the principals of healthy eating. High Recommended. Grady Harp, July 14″
